Friday, 15.06.2007, 03:20pm (GMT)
Dancehall music legend Shaggy will make a triumphant return to Ghana in August for a big two-day concert as part of a never-to-be-forgotten Reggaefest 2007 celebration.
Shaggy, whose 2005 concert at the Accra International Conference Centre
(AICC) is rated among the best foreign artiste performances in GH, will
storm Accra with other reggae heavyweights from Jamaica for what will become an annual Reggae music festival in Ghana.
Known in real life as Richard Burrell, Shaggy, aka. Mr. Boombastic aka
Mr. Lover Lover is not by any means a new name and face to Ghanaians
with his music enjoying lots of airplay and in clubs and parties.
Donna Amoah, Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive of Silicon
House Productions (Richard Hlomador) told JIVE over the weekend that
Shaggy will be on stage with Mr. Vegas, Buju and other artistes for the 1st Reggaefest celebration in Ghana. The
August 11 & 12 shows will be staged at the AICC and the forecourt
of the State House (opposite the AICC). Donna confirmed that the deal
to have Buju on the Reggaefest 2007 bill has been sealed and all
artistes especially Shaggy who promised to come back after the 2005
show, are excited about the Ghana tourSilicon
House Productions has over the last couple of years powered almost all
indoor & outdoor entertainment events in Ghana, providing sound,
lighting, stage, live band equipment and other acoustics. Mr. Hlomador
chipped in during the interview that the company has taken delivery of
more advanced equipment and remains confident that the two-part show
earmarked for this year will be the best ever. The second
Silicon House show for 2007 is billed for September. Billed as
‘September to be Remember’, it will be another Jamaican reggae invasion
of Ghana and is being planned to celebrate the life of Joseph Hill,
a.k.a. Culture who died last year.Donna says the September
concert will be “a culture thing” with Richard adding that the last
place Culture performed before his death was Ghana. ‘September to be
Remember’ will be a perfect celebration of the One Man who promoted
‘Culture’ music around the world. On the bill will be
Kenyatta(Culture’s son, who has taken over from him), Luciano, Ganja
farmer (Marlon Asher), Sizzla and Etana. But by far, Elephant Man who
is due to release a new album in August will be the fan’s favourite
together with the highly promoted Ganja farmer.‘September to
Remember’ is billed for the 8th & 9th and according to Donna both
concerts will have celebrated with Ghanaian artistes Samini, Wutah,
Bandana, Shasha Marley and King Ayisoba.
