Nigerian hip hop star Eedris Abdulkareem Attacked By Armed Robbers
Sunday, 16.09.2007, 05:38am (GMT)

Legendary Nigerian singer Eedris Abdulkareem was attacked by armed bandits in his hotel room in Abuja, at an undisclosed date early this week. The robbers reportedly barged into the Central Area-situated lodging during the wee hours of the morning, armed to the teeth and rid the hip hop star of his cell phones, clothes, money and other gadgets. "They didn't harm, or even attempt to harm me," Eedris told Weekend Magazine exclusively. He added that they seemed rather friendly when they realised who he was. "Alhamdulillahi, though, no-one was harmed," he said. Ironically, the former Remedies frontman chose the hotel he was staying in order to stay away from the public's eye and maintain a low-key presence.

Earlier, Eedris had told Weekend Magazine about his new album titled 'The King is Back', a 12-track album aimed at addressing the decadence of hip hop in the country. He said: "In unison, we shall first resolve to embrace the spirit of thinking and chart our course towards meaningful projects that will benefit the masses and the entire citizenry at large. There and then, we will make statements and more recognition will be accorded the music industry".

Eedris further noted that 'The King is Back' came from the yearnings of his fans, music lovers, admirers, creative minds and the underprivileged who are interested in his music.

"In order to set the record for unbelievers, my managers decided to invite Alabi Pasuma Wonder and Ruggedman for collaboration. That'll set the record straight for people who are in doubt," Eedris said. This will beef up the production and diffuse the impression of tension between him and the mentioned individuals, Eedris added. He further enjoined music sponsors, multi-national companies and government to see the music profession as one that requires much support rather than alienation and character assassination.
