Cesaria Evora Returns to North America, Brings Tchéka

Grammy Award Winner Cesaria Evora will return to North America for a series of concerts during the month of June in support of her latest album "Rogamar" (Pray to the sea) released worldwide in March 2006.

Cesaria, who was awarded the "L'ordre National de la Légion d'honneur" (Legion of Honor) from French President Jacques Chirac on April 26th, will bring opening act singer/songwriter Manuel Lopes Andrade, better known as Tchéka, a RFI (Radio France International) Music of the World Award winner, who will tour North America for the first time.

Cesaria will kick off her tour in California at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles on June 8th. The next day (6/9th), she will be at the Masonic Center in San Francisco, followed by Mountain Winery in Sarasota on June 10th.

She will perform in Canada at the Center of Performing Arts in Vancouver on June 12th and at the Winspear Center in Edmonton on June 15th, before returning to the US to appear at Pabst Theater in Milwaukee on 6/16th, at Ravinia in Highland Park on 6/17th, and at Power Center in Ann Harbor on 6/19th.

On June 23rd, Cesaria, who just ended a long European tour, will arrive in Boston to perform at the Berklee Performance Arts Center. Cesaria last performed in Boston on March 31st, 2006 at the Orpheum Theater.

Cesaria will then head to New York City (NY) to perform at the Carnegie Hall on June 26th. She will be at the Hart Theater in Albany on 6/27th. She will return to Canada to end her North America tour with shows at the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto on 6/28th and at the Confederation Park in Ottawa on June 30th.

The Barefoot Diva, who will be backed by her usual band, which includes José Andrade (Piano), João Alves (Guitar), Virgílio Duarte (Bass), José Soares (Cavaquinho), and Domingos "Totinho" Fernandes (Saxophone and Clarinet), is also scheduled to appear at Montreal's Jazz Festival on July 2nd.
