Spice Girls coming to South Africa
Monday, 02.07.2007, 05:22pm (GMT)

Cape Town - Great news for all Spice Girls fans: the girls are back and they're coming to South Africa at the end of the year to perform in Cape Town, as part of their worldwide tour.

The British group, who have confirmed their reunion at a press conference on Thursday, will start their tour in Los Angeles on 7 December, before heading out to Las Vegas, New York, London, Cologne, Madrid, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town and Buenos Aires.

The Spice Girls comprising Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice) and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) have had their heydays in the mid-nineties with hits like Wannabe and Say you'll be there.

Girl power

The band was created in 1994 by two would-be managers who advertised for women to form an all-girl group.

The girls' sexy image and "girl power" philosophy combined with easy-listening hits launched them to international fame.

The Spice Girls sold about 55 million albums and topped charts around the world before Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger decided to go it alone - with varying degrees of success.

Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) left the group in 1998 and the other four quit in 2001.

The have released three albums: Spice (1996), Spiceworld (1997) and Forever (2000). They also made a Spiceworld movie. (Additional information - Reuters)
