South Africa: Jay-Z Brings His Two Ladies to SA
Monday, 16.10.2006, 12:22pm (GMT)

AMERICAN hip hop superstar Jay-Z will be accompanied by the two most important women in his life when he arrives in South Africa today as part of his world tour.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is bringing his fiancée, bootylicious Beyoncé Knowles and his mother Gloria Carter with him.

Organisers, have confirmed that they expect a huge turnout at his concert - in which he shares the billing with Caribbean hottie Rihanna - in the Bellville Velodrome tomorrow night.

Michael Anetakis, spokesman for Big Concerts, which is hosting the event together with 5fm Radio and Heineken, said ticket sales for the show were doing very well across all three regions.

"In Cape Town we are expecting a 7 000 to 8 000-strong audience. The golden circle tickets have been sold out for a while and there are only general admission and seated tickets left. Audiences are encouraged to get their tickets now to avoid disappointment," he said.

This is to be expected as Jay-Z's recent performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York sold out in less than two minutes, and Rihanna's second album has already gone platinum. Apart from their massive global success, both artists have had significant radio play on a number of local and national stations.

Kwaito legend Kabelo will be stepping in as the opening act and will no doubt wow the crowd with offerings from his new album Exodus.

Kabelo, who started out in the early '90s with TKZ, has come into his own as a solo artist, winning two consecutive SA Music Association awards for best kwaito artist.

With worldwide album sales of over 33 million, Jay-Z, aka Jigga, has raked in a number of Grammy awards, a Billboard music award, and a whopping three MTV video music awards since his third album, Hard Knock Life Vol. 2 propelled him to international stardom.

He has recently featured on a number of Beyoncé's songs, including her latest offering Deja vu. International tabloid magazines have reported that the former Destiny's Child lead singer is jealous that her fiancé is spending so much time with Rihanna.

Rihanna was originally scheduled to appear in the Snoop Dogg concert in May, but cancelled after the dates clashed with the release of her second album, Tainted Love.
