Angola: Veteran Musician Raúl Indipwo Dies At 72 Monday, 05.06.2006, 02:09pm (GMT)
Angolan musician and painter, Raúl Indipwo, died on Sunday, at the age of 72, in Portugal, victim of an illness. Raul Indipwo was in the late 1950's part of a famous duet called "Duo Ouro Negro" with Milu Mac-Mahom Vitória Pereira- who died prematurely-, who contributed greatly to the diffusion of Angolan music abroad. Raúl Indipwo contributed for the past fifty years to the spread and divulgence of Angolan music, having created in the year 2000 the Ouro Negro Foundation (culture and human solidarity), with headquarters in Angola, as well as in Portugal where he was residing. Born on 30 November 1933, in the southern Cunene Province, Raúl Indipwo toured since 1959, with the Ouro Negro group, to several countries, taking national music to several world stages, with songs such as Tuende Kurikutela, Larip, Ilhéu and many others.
