Description: Cote d'ivoire / Ivory Coast elections. Complete Results. After the primaries, the Ivorian People went again to the polls on November 28, 2010 to decide their new president. Here are the results. Ivory Coast is experiencing some violence here and there since the elelction day. In the wake of the violence, to prevent the killings, President Gbagbo declared a cufew Saturday and Sunday the election day to be in effect at 10 pm after the polls closed. The curfew was to ensure the safety of voters and the people of Ivory Coast. But the opponent Alassane Outtara refused to Obey the curfew and called his followers to street to clash with law enforcement forces Saturday night on the eve of the elections. The day of the elections in Khorogo, the Presidential Majority Party (LMP) local representative was assassinated in the city of Khorogo at the voting booth to prevent her from voting. She was beaten and a few hours later died of her wounds at the hospital. Earlier in the month, defeated candidate with 25% votes during the primaries, Henri K Bedie called his voters of the PDCI regions, land of the Late Houphouet Boigny to vote for Alassane Outtara. Such a call by Bedie outraged the PDCI founders and leaders who in turn urged their followers to disregard the call, and instead vote for Gbagbo. For multiple reasons, these PDCI natives and wise Kings of the lands deem Gbagbo is better fit to be the president of the Ivory Coast. In reality, the November elections were essentially centered around those 3 key regions who would determine the new president of the Ivory Coast. Those 3 key regions are: The baouley (Center regions in Green on same map in previous videos and also know as the birth place of the Ivory Coast. It is the region of late president Houphouet Boigny who abolished forced labor then later acquired and signed the independence of the Ivory Coast in 1960 from the French. Houphouet Boigny led the country since then to her glorious days through the Ivorian dream till 1993.) Then, the Bas-Sassandra region (South West). Bedie's call was denied. Voters said Alassane had run out of ideas and was copying Laurent Gbagbo. He could not convince any more voters. In fact, Alassane lost more voters after the presidential debate 2 days before the elections, e.i. Zasso Tagro an influencial youth leader for Alassane himself publicly changed his heart and joined the Gbagbo campain just 1 day before the election, along with many more voters. Consequently Alassane could not inherit the 25% votes he expected of Henri K. Bedie's voters to push him over the finish line. Remember, Alassane came 2nd with only 32% during the primaries. As a devastating result for Alassane's camp, Alassane Dramane Ouattara lost the elections by a big margin. Alassane Ouattara with 32% votes lost to his opponent Laurent Gbagbo (68% votes). Laurent Gbagbo now becomes the newly elect president of Ivory Coast with 68% votes. Be a witness as history unfolds in the region.
